Landing Valves, Breeching Inlet & Fire Hydrants
In fighting systems, both landing valves and breeching inlets play crucial roles, yet they serve distinct purposes and have unique characteristics.
Landing Valves
A landing valve, also known as a fire hydrant valve, is an essential component in any building’s fire protection system. It is typically located on the ground floor or outside the building and is used by firefighters to connect their fire hoses and supply water directly from the mains to extinguish fires.
A landing valve is typically installed on each floor of a building, often near staircases or entrances. It is designed to provide a direct and accessible water supply for fire – fighting operations within the building. The valve usually has a single outlet, which is connected to a fire hose. They come in three types; oblique, right-angle, and straight-through, with threaded or flanged inlets and outlets.
Breeching Inlet
Breeching inlets, on the other hand, are commonly located on the exterior of buildings, near fire hydrants, or in strategic outdoor positions. They are designed to integrate multiple water sources and distribute water to various fire – fighting appliances. Breeching inlets are installed outside the building or any easily accessible area in the building for fire brigade personnel to access the inlet. This inlet is used by the fire brigade personnel to access water. It is normally dry but is used to pump water by charging using fire fighting equipment. There are two types of inlet breeching available, one is 2-way another is 4-way. The 2-way version has 2 x 2½” Instantaneous male non-return valve inlets and a 4″ outlet while the 4-way inlet breeching has 4 x 2½” Instantaneous male non-return valve inlets and a 6 outlet along with 1″ drain valve.
- Dry breeching inlet: used in dry riser systems where the water supply is not permanently connected to the system, and water is supplied through the inlet only when needed.
- Wet breeching inlet: used in wet riser systems where the water supply is permanently connected to the system, and water is always present in the system ready to be discharged through the inlet.
Stand pipes
A fire standpipe is a critical component of a building’s firefighting infrastructure, providing a vertical water supply system that allows firefighters to access water on multiple floors, especially in high-rise structures. Connecting to a fire standpipe efficiently and safely is essential for effective firefighting operations. At Fireline we stock two types of standpipes, one is single head outlet another is 2-way. Both have 2½” (64mm) outlet.
Dry Barrel Hydrants
Dry Barrel Hydrants are aboveground extensions of underground water mains, equipped with valves and/or connections for attaching fire hose. The pressure containing parts are usually made of cast iron or ductile iron. Hydrants can usually be obtained with standardized mechanical joint inlet or flanged inlet connections. Standard outlets are for 2½” (64mm) hose size. Hydrants can be obtained with independent hose gate valves.
